Sunday School:

We believe Sunday School is a vital means of Christian nurture and spiritual growth; there is an appropriate class for everyone including more “seasoned” adults, younger adults that includes post-high school and young singles and couples, and three other adult classes. Their names are as follows:
Men and Ladies Class, Rainbow Class, Young Adults, Apostles Class,  and the Berean Class.

Youth at Pocket attend Sunday School in their peer groups, much like their grade mix:
Nursery, Preschool (2-5 yrs.), Elementary (K-3rd grade), Middle Youth (4th-6th grades), and Senior Youth (7th-12th grades)

Organizations and Activities:

There are many opportunities within the Pocket church family to come together in fellowship to grow, learn, and serve.

Presbyterian Men: Breakfast meeting the first Sunday of each month at 8 am to fellowship and address service needs of both the community and the congregation

Presbyterian Women: Circles meet the first Monday after the first Sunday in the month; these groups of women gather with the purpose of learning and service. They participate in Bible Study, outreach to the congregation and community, and service to the day-to-day operations of Pocket.

Four L’s: (Lunch, Learn and Labors of Love) A group of adults (men and women) who meet for inspirational learning, lunch, crafts, and fellowship. This group meets as scheduled on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 11:30.

Chancel Choir: Anyone from 6th grade and up who wants to “make a joyful noise to the Lord” is welcome to join the choir! The choir presents a mix of classical, contemporary, praise, and hymn-tune music each Sunday during worship and special programs on days in the church calendar such as Christmas and Easter. The choir practices on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 from September through June.

Junior Youth Choir: Children in grades K-5 are welcome to participate in this choir where they share stories of Jesus and present Scripture through Christian vocal music, hymn tunes, poems, finger plays, and rhythm instruments. The Junior Youth Choir participates in worship about once a month and practice on designated Sundays at 3:45.

Parish Nurse Program: We have recently begun a Parish Nurse program, which is staffed by members of the church. On the first Sunday of the month after worship service, these nurses perform various medical services, such as checking blood pressure and blood sugar.

Youth Programs:

A number of opportunities are available for fellowship, service and learning at Pocket for kids from kindergarten to senior high. There are currently two groups: the Senior Youth fellowship and the Faith Fishers, kindergarten to 5th grade.

The youth programs are led by a volunteer Youth Council and directed by a Council Facilitator and advised by Rev. Dudley. The program is based on the Purpose Driven Youth Ministry by Doug Fields.

Mission: Senior Youth members regularly participate in mission opportunities, both locally and within a reasonable travel distance. The focus is on service to the wider community of people who are hurting or disadvantaged and has included helping with the rebuilding of communities ravaged by storms and financial hardship.

Scouting: Pocket hosts Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop 940 and Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1113.

Mission and Outreach:

Pocket members participate both individually and corporately in many service and outreach opportunities such as Bread Basket donations, Habitat for Humanity, world mission support, and the Christians United Outreach Center (CUOC), to name a few. On the 4th Sunday of each month, a special food donation is collected during worship for the CUOC, a collective group of Christian denominations in our area that aid individuals and families who need a hand up with food, clothes, and assistance.

Military Support: Pocket’s congregation regularly fills shoe boxes with all the reminders of home for our troops serving overseas which are delivered to Fort Bragg for shipping by special friends.

Special Mission: Additional outreach opportunities include Samaritan’s Purse Shoeboxes at Christmas, Angel Tree children and special donations through the leadership of the church.

International Mission: Pocket supports 131 Presbyterian missionaries serving around the world through its regular giving. We also share in specific support of Dustin and Sherri Ellington and their family, PC(USA) Mission Co-Workers  serving in Cairo, Egypt. Dusty teaches at Evangelical Theological Seminary, helping train Christian leaders from a variety of Middle Eastern countries.

Wednesday Night Bible Study:

Anyone who would like to learn more about the Scriptures is invited to attend Bible Study, led by Rev. David Dudley, starting with dinner at 5:45 pm. Volunteers prepare supper. Announcements are in the weekly bulletin and babysitting is available if advance notice is given. Our Bible Study has ended for the spring, but we will be starting back next fall.
